We were lucky to be able to visit both families in July.
Taylor Family Vacation - North Carolina
We spent the first week of July (July 4th week) in North Carolina. The kids both traveled great (thank goodness for iPads!). The weather was hot, so we spent time outside playing with the slip-n-slide and water guns and got to spend a day at the pool with cousins. We also got to go to "Notasium", a music-themed indoor playground, which the kids loved. Aunt Amanda made Cody a construction-themed cake for his birthday, which he loved! We had a great time!
Johnson Family Vacation - Wisconsin Dells
After a week home, we then traveled to the Wisconsin Dells for the Johnson family vacation. Aside from Will & Danielle's wedding in Turks and Caicos in 2014, this is the first time the Johnson extended families have vacationed together outside of Okoboji. Wisconsin Dells was selected as the vacation spot since it was almost halfway between us in Michigan and everyone else in Okoboji (7.5 hour drive for us vs. 5 hour drive for them). We stayed at the Wilderness Resort - Glacier Canyon Lodge and rented 2, 3-bedroom suites that were side-by-side, so we had lots of space. The resort was so nice with so many things to do that we really did not need to leave the property - there were multiple waterparks on property (both indoor and outdoor), mini golf, go carts, arcades, restaurants, and more.
Both kids LOVED the waterparks. Graecyn was brave and went on a few raft water slides with Eric and me that were completely dark - she loved them. Eric, Graecyn and I also tried out the Hurricane - a family raft ride that was also an "extreme thrill" ride. We waited in line for almost 45 minutes and it will probably be the only time Graecyn and I ever ride a ride like that! It definitely was an extreme thrill ride - you start out in the dark before dropping down and shooting out into this large tube where the raft shoots up and down each side before coming to an end. There was lots of screaming from Graecyn and me...Eric LOVED it! Cody loved the tube rides and rode them over and over again, giggling like crazy each time.
We squeezed every ounce of fun that we could into each day and everyone had a great time! I can't wait to go back!
