Scootin' Machine

Graecyn is officially mobile!  She rolls around like crazy, going in complete circles.  And, she is able to get up on her knees and scoot around...even borderline crawl!  Time to start baby proofing the house!  She's so much fun and definitely keeps us on our toes!

My parents visited over the weekend; we had a great time and Graecyn definitely got lots of lovin from her grandma and papa.

Crafty Mama

I am exploring my crafty side lately...through sewing.  When I was pregnant, I searched and searched for the perfect neutral bedding set and found one with a jungle theme.  Because it took Eric so long to finish the nursery furniture, by the time Graecyn was ready to move into her nursery, I had decided that I no longer wanted the neutral jungle theme and wanted a more girly theme (plus, you can't use most of the items that come in the bedding set due to the suffocation risk, so it seems like a big waste of money).

So, I went out searching for the perfect fabric to create my own crib bedding.  It took forever for us to agree on a fabric and truth be told, Eric's not crazy about the fabric I went with, but finally agreed it was good enough (I love the fabric).  Here are my masterpieces...

A crib skirt...

Accent pillow for the rocking chair...

Placemat for the dresser...

This post wouldn't be complete with out a few pictures of the nursery with Eric's beautiful furniture (we're still trying to decide what to put on the walls...maybe one day the room will be officially complete - hopefully while she's still a baby!). I'm so lucky to have such a talented husband to build all of this beautiful furniture!

Happy Father's Day

We had a great time celebrating Father's Day today with Eric.  Graecyn made a card for him earlier in the week at day care.

I helped her paint a picture for him...with her feet!

She ate sweet potatoes for the first time (homemade sweet potatoes...I'm hoping to make all of her baby food).  She liked the sweet potatoes better than the rice and oatmeal she's had previously.  I know it's too soon, but I hope that's a sign that she'll take after me and like fruits and vegetables later on.

Bath Time Fun

Graecyn absolutely loves bath time. She's usually pretty fussy while Eric and I are eating supper, but as soon as we get her upstairs and tell her it's bath time, she is all smiles, squeals, and kicks her legs like crazy.

We've graduated her to the big tub...well, at least an insert in the big tub.  She's not quite ready for the tub insert as she can't quite sit up on her own, unsupported...but, she was making too much of a mess in the infant tub.

5 Months Old!

Graecyn is 5 months old today!  She has learned so much in the past month.  She smiles and laughs like crazy and has started to scream, which is cute when she's screaming for fun...not so cute when she's screaming because she's mad.  She's spitting bubbles, grabbing everything and putting it straight to her mouth, and even somewhat sucking her thumb!
sucking her thumb
She can roll from her back to her tummy like a champ, but has forgotten how to get from her tummy to her back.  When she's on her tummy, she likes to scrunch her legs up and get on her knees.  I think she'll be scooting/crawling sooner than we realize.  When we change her diaper she loves to give us stiff legs, which makes it a challenge to put her diaper on; of course, as soon as we pull the diaper, she relaxes her legs and lifts her butt up so that the diaper comes out from under her.  She can officially get her feet in her mouth and loves to nibble on them.  She kicks her legs like crazy, loves to splash in the bath tub and loves to jump in her jumperoo.

Helping Daddy navigate Toronto

Graecyn has the prettiest blue eyes and her hair is losing its red tint and taking on more of a light brown/blonde color.  Her hair still stands straight up and she now also has a baby mullet.  She weighs 12 lbs 8 oz (5-15%) and is 25.25" (50%)...long and skinny!  She's just started wearing size 2 diapers and wears mostly 3 month clothes (although her butt is so skinny that she can still wear newborn pants...they just look like shorts on her).  I'm still nursing her and she loves to play peek-a-boo while nursing, which is super cute.  We just started giving her rice cereal a few days ago and she's eating it pretty well.  I plan to make her baby food and am excited to start giving her other foods soon.

Happy 5 Months, Baby Girl!

Our World Traveler

Graecyn is officially a world traveler!  She took her first trip to Canada last week..I had a conference in Toronto and since it's just a 4 hour drive from Detroit, Eric and Graecyn joined me.  She had her 4 month shots the morning we left, which worked out great because she slept for almost 3 of the 4 hour drive.

Graecyn has officially traveled more in the 5 months of her life than some people do in their entire lifetime.  She has taken 6 big trips (3 flights to NC, 1 flight to AZ, 1 long car ride to IA, and a car ride to Toronto) all before turning 5 months old!

We traveled to NC a few weeks ago to see Eric's younger brother, Mark, get married.  It was a very casual wedding and they had a beautiful day for it.  Amanda was a gorgeous bride and I'm so excited to gain her as a sister-in-law!
